I see what you mean, it would have been good to get his whole head in. Will it not work with your son's feet left in it?

To be honest I think I preferred the first photo, your dog having his nose cut off doesn't work for me. I've done a closer (still) crop of your first one, I hope you don't mind:

He got down and hugged him, looking up at me. I snapped the shot.
Our son was sitting on a seat behind them holding the lead, his feet were in the shot. Had to crop a little more than I wanted.
