Book tips for the long winter nights ?

Now the nights are drawing in, (well in the northern latitudes where I happen live) and it won't be too long before the season of horizontal driving sleet is upon us, I thought it might be a good idea to stock up on some interesting reading material. Photography related of course. Rather than surf the web, sometimes I do like to curl up with a tipple of something warming and have a good read.

Anyone got any good recommendations ? Technical, artistic, or perhaps something that has given you some photographic inspiration ?

Just to get the ball rolling I can say I recently picked up a copy of "Asahi Pentax and Pentax SLR 35mm cameras 1952-1989" by Danilo Cecchi. Pretty much essential for anyone interested in collecting Pentax gear I would say. Lots of photos and packed with interesting information.

All book tips, (or indeed appropriate tipple tips) gratefully received.

May I suggest "Vulcan 607" by Rowland White (published by Corgi)...if it`s not already in a bookcase in the study.

How did you know I was an aviation buff ?? Got shelfs full of books on the all aspects of the subject, but as it happens not that one.

One book that i would recommend is John Hedgcoe`s Photographers handbook. It`s 1970`s vintage but there is still enough that is relevant to Digital Photographers . I only acquired a second hand copy a couple of weeks ago for under a fiver. It was my Bible back in the 70`s and i am enjoying getting re acquainted with this brilliant book.

I've had my copy since I was a kid and I still refer to it regularly to this day. Great book.

I can recommend The Complete Digital photographer by Philip Andrews and Peter Cope, my copy was printed in 2007 and its relevant still today. This is aimed at all levels of expertise.

The tipple is either Nelsons Blood, or Irish Poteen.

Here's an interesting video on Beaumont Newhall. I have one of his books, now out of print, which is so beautifully written that it is worth reading just for the prose.
