Hi Griff,
1st tip, leave room for the subject to enter or leave the frame; looking at the pelican it`s beak is butting right against the edge of frame, it would look much better had it been more to the left.
2nd tip, Sharpness matters, always use the highest shutter speed you can, remember you can up the ISO to 400 without any noticable difference in noise levels in reasionably well lit scenes. Focus on the subject; in image 4 it looks like you have focused on the water drops behind the bird.
3rd tip, pay attention to the background, in your last 2 images there is a reflection of a pole, and quite a lot of weed, far to distracting.
4th tip, don`t be discouraged, practice really does make a difference.
5th tip, if posting several images for c&c, number them, it makes it easier to refer to specific photo`s.
Hope the above helps, of course other more worthy people may have better ideas.

6th tip. Do some cropping. Make the bird fill the frame.

Number one is the best shot for me as i have NEVER seen a pelican before so it was a great shot and toped the day for me

Please any comments welcome any at all i am new to this lark and need all the tips i can.
If there is one thing I know how to do well its being a complete TW@T!!
