Seems to be focused on the berry on the left, but it's still acceptably sharp. The 800ISO is impressive on a K20D.

I should say this is more than acceptable. Very brave hand-holding this set-up.
Best wishes,
Andrew

Hello Alan great shot.
Two questions:
1. Which teleconvertor did you use?
2. Why did you turn the shake reduction off?

The "matched" Sigma 1.4 DG EX.1. Which teleconvertor did you use?
2. Why did you turn the shake reduction off?
The camera does not know a TC is fitted so the SR is compensating for the wrong focal length.
And whilst I appreciate the praise I'm not all that impressed myself, there is a distinct lack of feather detail, though the Noise reduction software will be to blame for some of that.
I think I have to agree with Mike's view of prefering to crop rather than use a TC, perhaps it is more suited to Sigmas faster-shorter tele's

It's fine for the set up used.
Were you using MF or AF?
If AF, it isn't accurate enough under some circumstances, hence most using long glass use MF.
The TC gives more actual magnification so effectively you used a 700mm lens with a FOV of a 1050mm lens on the K20. Forgetting the wishful thinking of the 1050mm figure, you did very well to get this at 700mm hand held.
There are plenty of things that can cause loss of sharpness at long focal lengths. Try some test shots using a tripod or bean bag and cable release?
Best regards

Well, since you already said it I'll jump on the bandwagon and say I wasn't especially impressed by the IQ Although a equal-sized crop version for comparison would be useful. The camera does not know a TC is fitted so the SR is compensating for the wrong focal length.

But still, I think that if you hadn't said it was with a TC everyone would be saying this image was soft. And there's no getting away from the fact that it is soft. Sorry
On an unrelated note, is it definitely better to have SR off if it's the 'wrong' focal length? I've always operated under the (very probably completely wrong) assumption that 'some' SR was better than none at all. For instance if I'm using my Tamron 90mm I'll set SR to 85, and when I use my 1000mm MTO i'll set SR to 800.

K20D ISO800, run through Neat Image before resizing, about a 7th of the frame has been cropped from the right.
What do you guys think? is the TC worth using or would a crop be better.
