In their Weekly consumer programme, the Norwegian television channel TV2 did an interesting test on entry level DSLRs this Week . Their criteria were

- image quality
- user friendliness
- functions
- design
- performance
- value for money

And the ranking list:

1. Pentax K-x (Best in Test)
2. Nikon D3000 (Recommended)
3. Olympus PEN E-PL1
4. Canon EOS 1000D
5. Sony Alpha A230

According to the test panel the winner was easy to spot among the contestants, but we knew that already, didn't we ?
Best regards
Terry

IMO it would come out best out of those as i dont class it as entry level to be honest. i'd say entry-mid range if not mid, i think its only classed as entry as there is only that and the k-7 now, i'd put it inbetween the k-m and k-7 making it mid, but as the k-m is no longer produced i cant

(just my opinion)

Well, the cameras were selected by the test panel to be comparable. Pricewise, they are all in the same range (around £450).

I just thought it was nice to see Pentax on top for once. It is a rare ocassion in Norway.

Nice to know, down here in Italy it's very hard to find references to anything but nikon/canon/sony on printed media. But why did they end up recommending nikon?

Thats great news All the reviews I read before buying my Kx did not consider it to be an entry level camera.
Must be difficult to group cameras to rate based on price alone

hmmmm the Olympus PEN E-PL1 isn't a DSLR though so there goes my trust in the review

I recon its the same as we see as "commended" in our photo contests (not top notch, but a good second)

To be fair, the test states that the Olympus is not a true DSLR, but has exchageable lenses, therefore it was included as a system camera.

For those of you who understand Norwegian, here is a link to the test.
