Bempton Cliffs 2017

As the title says a few from the RSPB site, famous for it's nesting Gannets and other sea birds. Yesterday it was a real struggle to hold the K-1/150-450 steady against a blustery wind coming up over the cliff edge, so the majority have gone in the bin.
It good to meet fellow forum member Steppy for a few minutes chat and I'd be interested to hear how he got on with DA*300 he was using, being lighter and more compact.

Nice shots, well done in difficult conditions.
No. 5 is my favourite
I'm going there in June, any tips?
Regards,
Michael

Try to pick a day with an offshore wind. We got a lot of bums yesterday.
Take a warm, windproof coat the sun was out yesterday but the drop in temperature on the edge was amazing.
This time I had the 150-450 on a K-1. if I was using a crop sensor I'd be looking at 70-200 for the BIF, maybe longer for those nesting down the cliff.

Thanks Bill. Don't know when you were there last, but the RSBP have erected a number of very sturdy viewing platforms within there reserve, making it less scary along as your ok with heights

Lovely shots. Thanks for sharing them
Both the *istDS and the K5 are incurably addicted to old glass

An interesting set, even for a 'non birder' ! You have brought us really up close to the creatures and the captures freeze the motion beautifully. Nice clean images with good white tones in the feathers also. Clearly a very good days photography!
