Does any body on pentax user use bean bags when takin photos? and if so do they help, the reason I am asking is I will get my wife to make me some, but I dont know what the best size for her to make.

Yes I use a bean bag quite often, have three from small to large and filled with Haricot beans and find them very useful.

I terms of weight ( stuff to carry around ) would those polystyrene balls commonly used in seating bean bags work OK?

Polystyrene balls are fine weight wise for carrying around but have a tendency of blowing away in a stiff wind if left. I have found Haricot beans much more stable and solid even with the 600mm lens.

buy a bag of beans (any dried beans even coffee beans). put inside a ziplock bag or Crown Royal bag....

whiskey and beans...

consider that a survival kit!

I've tried the polystyrene beads, they're ok if you don't need precise positioning but the best is rice if you don't mind the weight.

Make the bag so you can fill it when you get to your destination if you are intending to fly with it. Rice/beans/lentils are available pretty much everywhere, and if you can keep them in a clean plastic bag (or the one they come in) they can be eaten at the end of the trip or given to someone else who made need them more than you.

Tesco Basic basmati rice comes in a useful size and a nice soft plastic bag. Tastes pretty good too! Add plenty of salt, cover with boiling water (an inch of water over the top of the rice), cover and gently simmer for 15 minutes. Turn off the gas and leave covered for 5 mins.
