Battery settings

I just updated K-x's firmware to 1.01 and I use NiMH batteries. I'd like to know which shoud be better choise for battery setting, auto or NiMH?

NiMH would be the better one.
The camera looks at the voltage to see if the battery is empty or not.
So telling the camera what battery you use stops the guessing from the camera because it can guess wrong sometimes.

I Upgraded mine last week. Set my k-x to Nimh...Works fine. I get the best and cheapest rechargeables from Aldi...

I've ran this so-called "fix" 1.01 FW for K-x's notorious batteries problem since initial release ans my experience is just as Anvh said; if using NiMh tech then set it specifically on that, even for the allegedly better brands like genuine Sanyo eneloop.
The fix only improves or covers up the problem Btw, it doesn't completely fix it.

Let's be honest, Pentax has a serious problem with power drainage on some models, esp the bloody K-x! Mine is pathetic for energy-efficiency longevity compared with my other-brand cameras.

It's very Lithium oriented too, that's why I believe that they chose to issue a set of them instead of something cheaper in AA, with each new K-x, but who can afford to keep buying those expensive things?

No surprise that they went away from AA for the default in K-r too.
I've also heard at least one K-7 owner complain that their block battery drains/leaks/shorts-away away in 2-3 days.

These things are usually just a simple design fault or unsuitable components specified in circuitry. It's time Pentax thought green (or were forced to by legislation, else litigation).

Me 3. Their Ultracell Ready-To-Use 2000mAh are easily as good as eneloop or similar long shelf life tech, and, in my region anyway, a 31% initial saving.

I don't think that's the problem.
I believe the voltage simply gets to low with most Nimh batteries and then simply refuse to go on.

You can have a look at NiZN batteries, they are rechargeable and have the same voltage as Lithium batteries.
Powergenix is a brand that makes them, very hard to get them in the EU but in the USA you can get them quite easy.
I'm thinking off shipping some over.

I use those in my K200d, great choice for next to nothing, so no worries about losing them.

It's a different camera I know, but If I don't set the battery type correctly on my Optio it used to show no power and shut down.

I ordered new charger and GP ReCyko (2100 mAh) batteries. Let's see how they works.

I use Activ rechargeble 2300 NiMH...

My first test with GP ReCyko wasen't success. ReCykos run out after few shots so I recgharge them (takes only 2h to) and tried again. Battery light was green at first, but after couple of shots indicator went orange and after a while to red (battery settings was NiMH + firmware 1.01).

Now I recharged them again with GP's charger and leave then in charger on 8 hours. Then I take ReCykos off and wait 2 h and measured the voltage, voltages was 1,4 V on all four batteries, so they should be fully charged. And that was on yesterday (12th of Dec.)

No, what should I do, put batteries back to the camera and turn power on right a way, or should I wait about 5 min (some proposal on the internet)and then turn on the camera?
