Battery power choice

Since getting a grip for my K20d and setting it up in camera to use the grip first, I was wondering is the battery level indicator reading just the battery in use or the total of the two?

Also if the grip switch is set to off is the on board battery now being drained or does the switch only isolate the controls?

The battery indicator shows the level of the battery in use at the time. From memory, the camera will still cease to function when one battery is depleted. Power off, then on again to use the alternate battery.

The grip power switch has no affect on battery use as far as I know, it only switches on/off the other controls.

The K20D has TWO battery level indicators.

The one on the top screen shows level of battery currently in use if grip first or body first has been chosen. If equal use of both batteries has been selected then it shows the power in both batteries.

The battery level indicator on the info screen (explained in manual) shows the level of both batteries separately, regardless of the battery use settings in the setup menus. Shame this feature has been removed from K7
