Astonishing, well done for such a difficult subject.
Some technical details would be nice for those of us aspiring to take similar.

I cannot begin to imagine how challenging this must be!
10/10 for taking this on.
I think it's great to see forum members challenging themselves in this way.
I can't offer any advice (out of my depth my about 50000 fathoms) but good luck and keep posting tne images!

Think you need to be clear on the breed of bat before throwing stones at them They don't all catch prey in a fold of skin by their tails.
I saw the program. The sequence was shot at Gosforth park Nature Reserve, where I go most weekends (currently in search of the elusive Kingfisher). Whilst it did work well, I thought it was irresponsible. I had visions of kids throwing stones at bats, saying they'd seen it on the TV.

It's not about what kit I've got, its about having the knowledge to use it to maximum potential.

Well done ! It is incredibly difficult to photograph bats without using something like an infra-red 'trip-wire' !
I've tried a few times with miserable results. They are too fast and I'm too slow.

Well I dont know what this fauna is.
However there are a couple of issues with this that i simply dont understand.
1. How can it be so hard to photograph a bat. It is the same as photographing say a swallow or a duck in flight.
2. If it is as difficult as you make out and yields out of focus and blured pictures as above then what is the point in doing it?

Don't do anything if it is hard, nobody like a challenge...
the best bet is to set up bat houses, flash and multiple cameras on remotes with IR or laser triggers...even motion detectors might work... other than that it is patience and luck...
Fired many shots. Didn't kill anything.

because bats are even faster than swallows... and if you've tried one of those in flight - or maybe a dragonfly - then you'll know how difficult it is. It's damned near impossible, never mind in darkness.

I've tried photographing our local bats at dusk, very difficult indeed with failing light and their speed pooping in and out after insects. I've yet to take anything worth posting in my portfolio.
I'd never seen such shots other than in infra red so regardless of how unsharp others may consider I think this is a great achievement and would love to understand how to manage to take such.
As to comments about 1/2000 of a second being needed (at night!!!!) exactly what speed of lens and ISO do some Forum members think they have available?
