Batch re-sizing

Hi

After pontificating for a couple of years - have finally started building a web-site.

The biggest challenge I am facing is uploading images - they are not web optimised and are therefore very slow to upload and even slower to open on the site. So - I need to re-size version for web use.

Does anybody know if there a quick and easy way to do this via some sort of batch editing function in either PS, elements, LR3 or any free program or am I cursed ith having to do one image at a time?

Thanks
Carl

You can set the output size when exporting from LR3 under Image Sizing

Shrink Pic works in the background and resizes all uploads as they leave your PC

I use Fast Image Resizer, it seems to work extremely quickly and produce good results.

Irfanview, amongst many other good points, has a superb batch mode that lets you do almost anything, within reason, including adding text and watermarks. Faststone is similar.

I prefer Irfanview for most things, but Faststone is great for quickly previewing images in different folders. Great for finding images when you can't quite remember where you put them.

You can do it in PS (CS3 and above - not sure about earlier versions).

Go to File - Scripts - Image Prcoessor.

Select the input folder containing images to resize in step 1.
Select ouput folder for resized images in step 2 (if you choose same folder as input it will create a sub-folder and use that).
Can choose the output size (max dimensions are set for width & height) then save as jpg, TIF etc. You can even choose a PS action to run on each image as it is resized.

I use "Quick Web Photo Resizer" from DZSoft - open it up, set the required size, drag the pictures in and drag the resized ones out again. The sizes are customisable, and it's intelligent in deciding how to deal with a mixture of portrait and landscape.

I must admit I've no idea of cost, I got mine with a magazine cover disc.
