I'm not at all sure where I'm going with this, any thoughts anyone?

Ken,

What's the unifying theme? Is it their home town? Their name? &c...

They are a what young people call, I believe, a four piece beat combo. They hope to have records in the Hit Parade I think.

Actually they an indie band are called The Hype. I was trying out an idea of bouncing light off the floor. There are of course shots of them together as well.

The background of the drummer and bald guitarist are a bit gray compared to the white of the other two.

How about putting a background in the shots? Some graffiti perhaps?

Have you got their legs in shot as well? How about having them poking out of the bottom of the frames but with a grungy overlay everywhere except inside the frames.

Just an idea (very possibly a crappy one )!

These are some great portraits, Ken. I like the white background, it's something that David Bailey was a great purveyor of. I appreciate those black frames, too.

I feel that the lighting could be more consistent if they are to be a set, or represent the members of the same band.

Is this your own set-up, or studio?

Thanks Paul, the backgrounds will eventually match the leftmost one.

Aliengrove, we don't have any grafitti in Glasgow so I cant go out and photograph any.

Just a thought, I wouldn't have the guitarist and bassist in consecutive pictures, as the poses are similar.
If you can't say something nice about Pentax, you won't say anything at all.

Apparently.

You must be in the posh part then: try some of the tower block estates. Maybe not such a good idea on second thought, not with camera equipment.............

I agree with Paul here: they're a super set of male portraits which just need a gentle tweak here and there to make them a unified set.

Nice work.
Best wishes,

Andrew

Hello Ken,

I think that they all look a bit defensive. Bands should look happy and relaxed or angry and edgy....

I think the Guitarists look "posed", they dont look like theyre performing so why have them look as if theyre playing their instruments?
And the folded arms of the Drummer and I assume lead vocalist look a bit defensive, they may be technically competent shots Ken but sorry to say I dont feel they wotk.

I think a browse through other bands publicity shots might give you a few more ideas.

Also dare I say that I get the feeling the second guitarist looks like he also auditions as an extra for Star Trek

Alan, I think you've hit the nail on the head about the defensive poses, that's probably why they aren't working as well as I'd hoped.
