I just found a fault with the Forum. It's censoring out the backslash character.

If it's taken you 17 months to figure that one out then it's not that big a fault...

So it is.

You can see it in the preview but not when you click on the thread. really weird.

Interesting logic

The fault on the aircraft is nota problem until you fly on it.

I want to show some file path structures in a Lightroom Workflow Essay I'm writing. I presume the forward slash key doesn't work either /// - OH yes it does.

The left arrow key doesn't work either >asefwefwef>

In fact any text after the left arrow key is deleted from the post. Change the first right arrow key to a left arrow key and you'll see what I mean.

This means we can't use the left arrow key for a 'smaller than' sign.

It's already broken by the looks of it

I'll have to post my Lightroom Essay over at Smeggys until the character bugs are fixed here.

It's not broken. The left arrow signifies the beginning of an HTML tag, which is why it won't display in a post. (it only doesn't work if there is a non-space character immediately following it). If it is followed by a space then you can type it, e.g.

<

The backslash key is probably an escape key. Usually you would be able to display these by typing it twice, but that doesn't work here

Lucian is being clever and typing in the numeric code instead of the actual backslash character

Yes I know but every other forum I've frequented hasn't this problem. There's no need to filter out HTML anyway. There's only a need to guard against running malicious HTML code

You can type html code into a phpbb3 forum and it simply displays the code.

And removing the backlash key is not good behaviour anyway.

If this forum is designed this way then technically it's bad design rather than 'broken'. But either way it's not good.

I was asked to describe my Lightroom Workflow, which I was happy to do, but I can't post it here because of the forum's bad design regarding characters. I'm not messing around inserting numeric codes and keeping two versions. I'll simpyl post it elsewhere and link to it. Job done.

If you press the left Alt key and from the number pad type the corresponding number from Lucians list you will get the character you want. There are also some fun ones too... Alt +

So why can you see it in the little summary when you look at say recent posts, but you can't see it in the actual post?

Well, phpBB3 only came out last year. This forum has been running since 2005, with (I suspect, based on my experiences over the last 18 months) few upgrades. So I'm not surprised if phpBB is somewhat more refined
