How about this?

Used the magic wand tool then applied the Gaussian blur filter then adjusted it to this.
about 5 mins to do this

Well...I can do it, but the results stays the same. The background simply isn't working, what ever colour blur or other hocus pocus stuff you throw at it. Sorry.

I sliced it out for you using Topaz Lab's ReMask v2
Took a couple of minutes, including adjusting the resulting mask to cope with the transparency of the droplets. The mask could do with some tweaking - but there's only so much I can do at this low resolution.
(You can get demo versions of the plugins from Topaz... do a Google before buying as they have several discount codes going on )

I never cease to be amazed at how many plug-ins there are, and how much one could spend on them. I keep looking at Silver Efex Pro but haven't taken the plunge yet.

I have looked at a few too, but the purist in me doesn't want to make a digital image look like something it isn't.

I agree with gartmore, keep the picture basically correct, just "tweek " as required but not to much.

The selection and blur thing works, but it takes forever. It would be a helluva lot quicker to just hang a bedsheet or something on that wall and take the photo again.
