Smaller f-number and a longer focal length should give you a more blurred background, if that isn't enough you can place your own background or do some in post processing.

Thanks Stefan. It's ideas on how to do the post processing I was after, as I have very limited know how in this area.

Use something like the magnetic lasoo tool to very carefully select the branch and droplets (this might take several goes and try your patience). Then reverse the selection so that everything except the branch is selected, then apply something like the Gaussian blur filter.

tried that and it sort of works, but I'd already USM'd it first and that made really nice halos.
Difficult, nice demo of how easy the pen touch is when doing complex lassoos.

The selection and blur thing works, but it takes forever. It would be a helluva lot quicker to just hang a bedsheet or something on that wall and take the photo again.

I think your right but I wonder how long I'll have to wait before the droplets appear again.

I like a challenge and did try. But I am not gonna post it. The most secure and effective way in PP is using a mask. Using selections always result in halo's. One way or the other. The problem is the background structure. Desaturating and blurring just isn't saving this picture.
My suggestion: buy some coloured sheets in earth tones and place them behind the subject if you don't like the original background.
This one is destined for the bin, I am afraid.
