I'm taking my SFX out tomorrow!

The reason why is kinda sad though:

I'm going to Alton Towers and I want to take a camera. There was a time when I'd have taken a disposable to such an outing, but film SLRs are now so cheap on Ebay it actually makes more sense to take a "proper" camera. Especially since I bought the SFX for the lens(es) which came with it, so it was effectivly free.

Don't you think that's sad?

Yes it is sad I did the same thing and i bet i know what lenses you got with it :
SMC F 28-80 and an SMC F 70-210

My SFX is covered in decals from its previous owners world travels but other than that is in very good condition. It also came with a Billingham bag.

alas I didn't manage to score a 28-80, but the 70-210 alone was worth more than I paid for the SFX + 35-70 + 70-210.

The 35-70 is quite handy though just because it's hardly any bigger than a 50mm prime.

Through various such purchases I now have 2x SFX bodies and a Z-10 which I have no particular use for, still it should keep me in 'disposables' for a while.

My SFX kit with bag only cost me 80quid I could sell the 70-210 for more than that. It was a pickup only off e-bay. Very happy with that deal

I also have a Z-10 with an SMC FA 28-80 power zoom on it. The SMC F 28-80 leaves it for dead though

Had the me super out over the weekend. What a viewfinder never ceases to amaze me the brightness of it. But again as the title post states value = disposable. This will still be working long after a lot of the current crop of consumer cams are propping up a land fill somewhere.

yes I had a look through my ME-F when I was looking for the SFX at the weekend. That viewfinder is just amazing.

SFX performed well and came back in one piece, now I just have to get the film processed.

I think if I was a wealthy man I would have a collection of classic cars to take out at the weekend. Austin-Healey 3000, E-type Jag, etc. etc. However I am not, but I do have a collection of film camera's that I like to take out once in a while. Mostly my Super A, but sometimes my SFX and P30n come out too. I like them all for different reasons, but for me the Super A is top of the heap. All that said the K10D is our family work horse, and gets used 99% of the time.

Cheers,

my ME-F is still my favourite film camera, and it's what I use if I want to use film creatively.

I take the SFX out in preference only if I think I might want to hand it to someone else. Stick it in P with AF switched on and it's point and click.

I'd forgotten how much I like being able to go from P to Av just by turning the aperture ring.

I have not forgotten that little feature and I really miss it when using older lenses on the K10. Still if you look at it the other way its one of the factors that makes using older SLR cameras once in a while so enjoyable.

Do you have the dedicated ME-F 35-70 lens too ?

Alas, no. I've never managed to pick up a working example. I understand that the AF isn't particularly good and munches batteries like there's no tomorrow, but it would be nice to get hold of one to complete the set.

I originally bought the ME-F because at the time I was an impoverished undergrad student and ME-Fs tended to sell for less on ebay than ME-Supers.

I have grown to love it and it's MF assist function is a nice perk even without the matching AF lens.
