As we have been having a bit of sun the last few days I went hunting for bugs.

They're all up to your usual high standards Mike, but the shield bug one is easily my favourite. WHat a fantastic shot! (Just the sort of thing I want to see in this week's fortnightly comp! hinthintnudgenudge )

Great shots Mike. I particularly like the ladybird, but it seems to have some kind of halo effect around it's head/thorax area.

Congratulations Mike on a very nice series. Patience and skill - how did you get so close to them all?

.. I don't think my size would allow any type of stalking skills.

These were taken with the Sigma 180mm macro and the Pentax 100mm f2.8 with 1.7x teleconverter attached so a bit more distance available than normal.

I was lucky with number 5 though, I think it was sleeping.

Peter: can't see any halo as such but then I am doing this on a laptop so maybe it just doesn't show. There was a patch of light in the background so that may be it :

Thanks for the comments anyway.

They are all superb Mike!

The 180mm Macro is on my 'to get' list; though it seems that lens has been discontinued, so it might be a little difficult to get hold of next year.

I agree with Tim - the colours of the shield bug and depth of field of that shot are superb, and it's my pick of the bunch.

Mike has far to many lenses, perhaps if you make him an offer

I have only just bought the thing .. took me the best part of 12 months to find one at a price I was willing to pay.

Anyway, they are slowly going now.

Beautiful - I love the ladybird. What iso are you shooting at Mike? There's a hint of film-like grain to some of these.

Great shots! I'm another who would snap up a 180mm if I could find one I think the shield bug is my favourite. I like the crop very much.
