Yes, that is a real pain.I find it a pain that windows in Apple don't 'maximise' properly to fill the screen and hide all the crapola in the background... but there's an app called RightZoom which fixes this behaviour.
Also, if they can get nice small high quality IPS panels for their iToys why can't they put that into the Macbook Air or Macbook Pro range? Then I'd get one for my photography work.
What I'd love:
11in Macbook Air with IPS panel and sRGB colour gamut. Only down side would be resolution but at home I could always plug in to my 22" IPS panel.

there is a litlle tab in the bottom right of the window that you can use to manually resize the window upto full screen, and when used with the trick (f3 & click on the windo you want) seems like a pretty easy way to get what you're asking for.Pentaxophile wrote:

finder seems to remember what size window you used last, so if you for example in Safari, resize the window, then close it, the next time you open windows in safari, they will open up to the same size as the last one you used... full screen as you asked for...
as for the displays, there will be nicer displays when the prices drop, but in the mean time I think Apple went with (what still are very good screens) the notion that most people are using external monitors with thier laptops for the majority of thier work and using the built in screen when they have to.
I know my laptops get used as desktops 95% of the time, so it has never bothered me....

I just can't go back to a TN display after having an IPS which I can look at from any direction without worrying about accuracy.

The MBP have IPS panel so far as i know and they so good as cover the sRGB, for the rest you've the RGB led solution from DEll, that one almost cover aRGB and HP have radiant screen or something like that, that one almost cover sRGB but has a very high contrast. Also, if they can get nice small high quality IPS panels for their iToys why can't they put that into the Macbook Air or Macbook Pro range? It's just a pain that things work slightly differently then you used to, it just messes with productivity.

you can buy (relatively cheap) keyboard covers that have all the photoshop keybord shorcuts marked and colored, or just fiind a cheatsheet... that would be helpful maybe..
I've been thinking of buying one for final cut, as I'm sure I could improve and speed up my workflow.... somedays I feel like a surgeon using a butter-knife.....

Shortcuts are almost the same besides alt, ctrl, since mac doesn't have ctrl or alt but Mac key or something like that, but they did switch the placement/function of the keys around
But it's the way the windows are managed that's breaking it up for me, searching for the right window with your photo while you're busy making a collage with 12 photo's was just a pain. Hopefully things will improve with your tips.
windows 98 was quite good and upgraded to XP 64bit, that one used a different Kernel than the normal version and was much more stable, skipped vista completely and now running Win7 for several years now without a hitch.
I've heard of plans of making Win8 cloud based, i don't like that idea

Actually modern Mac keyboards have control, alt, and command (which used to be the apple key, now it has that symbol ⌘ which I've read they borrowed from Swedish maps).
The alt key used to be called the option key. That was at least 10 years ago though. The control key has always been the control key.

I'm using this one on school.

I now see control is in the same place so it seems the function are swapped in PS self, will need to check that.
No idea if the option key is used or not, used the command key.
I use ALT to zoom out and CTRL to zoom in on Windows with the mac it was Control to zoom out and Command to zoom in.

You might find it easier to zoom with command = and command - (the plus and minus keys, but you don't need to press shift)
In general on the Mac you would use command where on a PC you would use control, especially for keyboard shortcuts.
