Not seen one of these before, shame you couldnt have got a bit more light around the eye as it would have made these, do you use fill flash?

I'm confused ..... Shouldn't the lenses be the other way around, ie the 150-450 on the K1? Isn't that the FF one, and the DA300 the crop one?

that's always a problem with black headed birds. In the main they always seem to have black eyes as well

The DA* 300mm is officially designated FF by Pentax (as is the DA* 200mm too.)

I do like avocets. Never seen one in Britain but they're special.

These are great photos, hard to tell the difference in system from these. Must have been quite a load to carry though, what was the rationale to using both?

They are a very delicate but busy bird, feeding almost non stop; It was very comical to see them drinking though, as you can see in some of the photos; filling their beaks with water and then throwing their head back to funnel it down their throats.
I was shooting with the K1, DA*300mm combination and the K3II with the HD 150-450 lens; I like the big zoom but forgot how easy the 300mm is to handle in comparison, it is a joy to use and always lives up to it's reputation for IQ
Anyway see some of the shots below ; any comments (negative or positive) are most welcomed.
