I was at Pickering for the 1940's weekend just two weeks before the goths event at Whitby. It has equal appeal for photographers, and it's just as busy.
In fact it doesn't just happen in Pickering, every station along the North Yorkshire Moors Railway takes part in this.

It's a completely different direction, but we could look at hiring a sudio and model?

Actually, I've just realised that my previous suggestion may take us further down the letch route than the goths!

The NYMR 1940s Event is a fantastic 3 day weekend - I was there too - as were about 1000 other's lugging bags full of gear around - but well worth it.

The beauty of this event for me is that there really is something available for all tastes in photography, Clearly the event itself which gives you masses of opportunities for great shots - but also the railway, the towns and villages of Pickering, Goathland, Grosmont and even Whitby. Added to that, the spleandure of the North Yorks Moors and Dales in Autumn.

Just about the only thing it does not give you is a a studio and a model - but hey - that would just be plain greedy

Country shows - are good bad and indifferent in my experience - depends which one (and sometimes depends which year!). For instance I thought the one at Harewood was dreadful this year whereas the one at Broughton was excellent IMHO

This sounds good, and I'd be interested in this, assuming I have a functional back by then and my spinal discs are behaving themselves!!

Whilst talking to someone at Low Barns they mentioned Foxglove Covert Local Nature Reserve at Catterick Garrison.
Maybe worth a look.

Improbably, its 94 acres of woods, wetland and meadow lie beside Europe's largest military base, Catterick Garrison in North Yorkshire, home to an entire army brigade of 7,500 regular soldiers, plus 1,900 recruits and 2,000 civilian workers."
