autofocus

Tried new k5 at my daughters indoor sports tried continious auto focus, single autofocus different programs with flash metz 48 without. Out of focus shots shutter lag all rather dissapointing . fellow with canon no problem at all fast autofocus no shutter delay i must be doing something wrong ?

It sounds like you are doing something unsuitable for the situation, but hard to know what without being there.

Forgetting the flash, which kills atmosphere anyway, I would set a high ISO and a fairly wide aperture and then prefocus on a spot, holding the exposure and focus point with a half press on the shutter release. Then just before your daughter arrives at that spot release the shutter. It's a matter of practice to catch action, so keep trying and look at any techniques that are offered here or in magazines and books.

Agree with above, but could also have been Metz Flash not sync with K5, did you set sync speed manually ? batteries charged ? did you try with built in flash ?

took flash off set high iso pre focused on daughter waited till she was about to jump with finger still half depressed shutter pressed but jump over by time it went off
pete ps tried same at home fine

Cant post anything usb ports up the swanee for some reason, pc on last legs me thinks also as computer literate as average house brick
