Robin,

It is because of the light path in an SLR - happens with all brands and models and has always been the case.

When snapping with my newly discovered Centon 500mm mirror lens yesterday, I observed camera shake, when carefully looking thru the viewfinder, camera on tripod...using self timer, 12 secs.

This is a function of mirror vibration.

For those of you who are not aware, the solution to this is to use the mirror up function, 2 sec self timer in drive mode.

Whilst using remote, the picture is taken 2 secs after mirror pops up, thereby preventing camera shake from that source. AE lock is enabled with the exposure value set immediately before the mirror goes up.
