Auto extension tubes

Some years ago I bought a Pentax extension tube set - probably for the Super A, at the time.

I rather stupidly gave them away with the camera when I sold it and I've been hunting around for a replacement set at a reasonable price recently.

There are loads on offer on Ebay but the set I had had a row of contacts which presumably linked some information from the lens back to the camera. These contacts don't seem to be present on the sets I've seen for sale.

What did these contacts do and am I going to miss them on a K10D or *istD?

Thanks.

I got a Kenko set with Pentax AF fitting. They are fully automatic subject to light availability for auto focusing but generally you would manual focus anyway.
They work fine with my istD so I presume they would work with my K10 - when I get it in about 6 months time .
I got mine from new Warehouse Express.

The electrical contacts transfer aperture information to the body and are essential for program exposure modes on the more recent cameras, so without them you're stuck using stop-down metering in M mode on the digital bodies. So yes, you will miss them. Tubes with contacts do come up on ebay from time to time, so keep looking.
