Austria - Holiday snapshots

Some photos of my vacation to Austria last winter.
Surprisingly made the best landscapes with the DA*50-135 and not with the DA*16-50

1. this one is a HDR Panorama, 3 photo's wide and 3 exposures thick done it handheld.



2. This one is a bit cropped, used the DA*50-135 for that.



3. Also with the DA*50-135



4. I really like this shot, not sure which lens but it's 50mm



5. HDr, 16mm i believe. No one on the Dutch forum liked it but i do so let me know if you've a different taste ^^



ps. photo's are 1024 wide so if you click on them you should get a slightly bigger view and if you want to edit be my guest.
Over the white balance, i left it bit on the blue side to make the photo's feel a bit cooler.

A nice series Stefan. #1 is especially good considering it's hand held. Hope you had a good vacation.

Not surprising at all Stefan, we all see things differently, thats what makes us PENTAX users
But seriously though, we each see what we want and use the lens best suited to capture it, I often look at EXIF data on an image to tell me what lens I used only to find it says 50mm, then I have the problem of working out if it was the 16-50 or the 50-135 A bit like your number 4 I suppose that comes from years of carrying around a 35mm camera with only a 50mm lens attached because thats all I could afford.

And yes, number 4 works best for me (with a bit less sky)

I really like this set. The images are quite striking.

I hope you don't mind, but I had a little play with #5. I was attempting to complement the drama already in the shot. I do like the result, but I think maybe it feels a little bit 'busy'.

I've shot most photos actually with the 16-50 lens but they aren't that special but the few photos that I shot with the DA*50-135 came out so much better. Like you said I'm really not used to be looking at 16mm, I've used the 100mm and 40mm for almost a year and later bought the DA*50-135 so never worked with wide angle except the occasional photo with the 18-55.
I hope i can master the 16-50 a bit, i do like to play with the lens it surely is more fun the range.

About the photo, you are quite right, sky isn't on 1/3th but i find it good enough though. Might update it later maybe.

Your edit surely has a different impact, maybe cloning away the branches on the right might help a lot to calm it down even more... i might give it a try

Me too was really surprised how well it came out with HDR.

btw content aware added some things to make it a bigger photo, here is the normal exposure without the blank parts filled to give you an idea.



Content aware also removed a whole house in photo 3

I think you did overdo the HDR on it Stefan. It's a great shot and wonderful scene of Austria - I can almost taste it.

I've seen a lot worse HDRs but I think you've slightly stepped over the line a bit.

The Sky is a bit too much "Planet X is about to collide with the Earth and burn it to shreds"

I agree that the sky is indeed maybe a bit too much here but on a large full screen it does look better i believe, maybe you should try that and then say if it's good or not?

I like the light on the middle ground trees in No4 and I like the impact of the opening shot.
