Ash Cloud and Holiday

Well Iceland dumps on us again, booked a week's holiday expecting some nice dry clear weather and what do we get? a grey soup overhead, mother nature once again conspires against me. Please I just want a little bit of sun for my poor old K200D, she hasn't seen any since last year.

Apparently sunset this evening should be an interesting colour ...

Around Heathrow it is actually nice and clear, almost cloud free and sunny.

Was thinking that myself, grey and dull here though. DOH

That can be easily explained - LEEDS !

The ash cloud is not actually visible. The cloud you see is just that cloud.
It is very fine but it is not a danger to health (unless you happen to be in jet flying through it :winknor will it effect the weather. Just the potential for some stunning sunsets and sunrises.

You don't want it to rain while that stuff is about either - it will make a real mess then.

-.. it would match the rest of the car... they are washing some streets to drop the fine particle dust levels.

As one whose definately on the wrong end of the dust cloud - not in Bath as I should be this afternoon, watching the boys take out Sale - nope, stuck in Sydney (true, sky is pretty clear & blue) with a promise of a seat next Saturday which will get me and SWLTBO home late Sunday pm - via Birmingham as if we want Heathrow, add 3 days to the wait.....

Suppose we are lucky - got intercepted at check in and turn back - could have been camped in some airport lounge at Bangkok or Dubai rather than squatting on friends.

Really do want to get out - sorry Clarky - but been out this way for 5 weeks and dragging it out to over 6 weeks is getting to be a very big downer.

As you are stuck in Sydney, have you tried to meet up with Lance Blackburn and family? He's a great guy and a Pentaxian through and through. We have a permanent invite with them when we eventually go down under.

Why not send him a PM and meet for a beer at least? I know you will get on famously as he has quite an LBA collection (he actually coined that phrase originally).

Richard - not a bad idea. Could also try and tie up with Clarky.

Luckily, not far away from Sydney train/underground system East Hills Line - so as long as we use Circular Quay as an RV, could be a runner. Current news still not good - NATS not reviewing situation til 0100 Sunday (10.00am my time).

Clarky - up for a beer Circ Quay area? Need a moral booster!!!

And you're not stuck entirely in Sydney, Steve - there's always Melbourne, an hour's flying to the South if you can't get back for a few days. Plenty of photo opportunities here as well. Let me know if that appears on your itinerary, and we can introduce ourselves.

I'll be at the Aquarium, Darling Harbour on Sunday 18th, around 11am-12pm, with the family. If you guys are interested, come along and take some "underwater" pics. Anyway, what's all this talk about ash? I thought you English gents were referring to the Ashes, but then, you hardly ever have them in your country, do you??

Hi Steve, wish I had seen your post this morning, I would have met up today, I'm off too the caravan and camping show at Rosehill (Parramatta) tomorrow with a few mates. Will you still be around next weekend?? I will be up for beer. cheers.

Know it well - "did it" in Jan 07. Tomorrow lunch time is covered so won't be going that way - due to go up to Moorebank Sports Club.

Shot past your part of the world on thursday - driving from Coff to Sidney expecting to get a plane back to Blighty. Didn't dare stop as had to get car back to Avis by 14.30. Lot of interesting water based photo ops but no time to explore.

And as to THE Ashes, who are the current "owners"? Give you a clue - not Aus

Its a real mixed blessing for my wife and I.

My wifes Mum died on Monday night at the age of only 53 ...... My wife and her parents are Slovakian. We managed to get a flight from the UK to Poland on Wednesday, as we were unable to get any flights to Slovakia, we then hired a car and drove from Poland to South East Slovakia.

Originally it looked like we would have to have travelled on Thursday but luckily we got on a flight from a remote airport, just before they shut the airspace down. If it was Thursday my wife would have missed her Mums funeral, so at least we got here albeit not for good reasons.

Now we are here for an indertimed amount of time. With the Polish presidents incident and this volcanic ash it is chaos......
