Are You Satisfied

Hi All
I will hopefully be upgrading my K10D to a K20D very soon (not sure where from yet).
I'm interested to know if you are satisfied with your upgrades whether from film to digital or from DS/DL to the current models. Does your new camera perform as you wanted, or are you a bit dissapointed and wished that you stayed with what you had.
Was the upgrade worth it.

Tough one to answer that!

I went from K110d to a K200d. More pixels, shake reduction, dual RAW/JPEG, just to name a few of the improvements.

But I still use the K110 from time to time and still get excellent shots!

I upgraded from a Ds to the K20D. In all honesty I miss the Ds, which has since died, or actually was killed by my darling husband.
I miss the size of it, the ease of use, the quality of pictures from it.
I am really struggling to get anything like the quality out of my K20d. I know it's me not the camera, but I can't seem to get the settings to suit my style. I'm just not in love with this camera like I was with the Ds. It is too bulky and I am struggling with it. When I see the photos from the K-m for instance I think I made a mistake.
If I could afford to I would probably trade it in for the K7 but the camera is less than a year old so I couldn't really justify it even if I could afford it. And I'm not sure I would like the K7 any better.

I am still coming to grips with the K-7 and at times I have put it back in the bag and grabbed the K20,

I am finding I am being overly critical with shots from the K-7 and just looking for a reason to be disappointed, I was never like that with the K20.

Time will tell I guess. But I do love the video on the K-7

Mind, if we didn't upgrade we would be stuck with .3mp point and shot things!

Ratcatcher, my local Currys superstore have the K20d at £499 including 18-55mm kit lens - on clearance

Thanks Bodyheat but i can't do anything until September.

mind you some 3mp pixel point and shoots are better than todays models. I still have a Canon S30 from 6 years ago. Tv Av M modes ISO down to 80 and shoots Raw. I reckon a Ricoh GX200 must be the closed point and shoot today with the same featured. And the 3mp sensor means much less noise than todays 12mp models.

Mind you there's no comparison with the K20 and I know which one I'd give away if forced to.

I love my DS, with a pancake 40m or 35/2.0 FA - small, light, excellent image quality and good build.

Ah! And there is the good side to having a very limited budget..I can't afford to upgrade, so don't have any of these concerns

I do like my istDL and think it was worth the upgrade from the MESuper, but only because I can afford to take more shots, make more mistakes and learn what I'm doing.
If I'd stuck to film I'd have been conscious of processing costs and not taken so many shots.

My Pentax upgrade path (the cameras I've actually used) has been Super-A > MZ-S > *istDS > *istD > K10D > K20D and I've not regretted any of them.

I've had 2 x *istDS's, 5 x *istD's, and I still have a K10D and 2 x K20D's. I will not be upgrading to the K-7 for the foreseeable future due to a: it's high price, and b: the reported quality issues.

I'm very happy with my K-7 having upgraded from the K20D. My K-7 has none of the reported faults (touch wood), whether I've just been lucky or perhaps the reported faults are statistically smaller than they appear. People with faults do tend to make it known (and why not) while happy users perhaps do not.

Anyway I really cannot think of anything I'm unhappy about with my K-7, particularly now v1.01 has been released with the option to directly access to focal points (like the K20D). And to add a cherry to the top, since yesterday my favoured RAW converter now supports K-7 PEFs

My next mental struggle is whether to keep my K20D as a backup or sell it with the grip and spare batteries :

I went from k10 to k20 and i am really impressed. K10 is a great camera,just went for the extras on k20. Wont be going for k7,want to really learn to use k20,and stick with it !

Super A, SFXn, K10.

Then there are a few others I have used as second bodies over the years too. Program A, P30n and ME Super.

All excellent cameras. The K10 is far and away the best camera I have ever owned, but the Super A is my all time favourite.

Still got my K10D but starting to struggle a bit with the limited ISO and low light AF capability which I can only see that getting worse as the days get darker. Was ready to buy the K-7 but the high price and reported problems have put me off for the moment.

Am currently considering looking for a used K20D or new GX20 amongst other things.
