AP Gives K7 award of Innovation of the Year 2010

Amateur Photographer awards are out and K7 got one for the self leveling sensor.

It was also nominated for in camera HDR.

There's nothing in the K-7 that I find particularly innovative. What it does represent is excellent value. For the price, you'll struggle to find another kit that provides all the features coupled with the build quality.

well, apparently AP disagree. And you have to admit the self leveling thing is pretty clever and hasn't been done before (more or less the deffinition of "innovative" last I checked)

Which camera/s won best DSLR ?

The potential's there though. If the next generation came with a sensor that could take fore/aft movements along its horizontal axis along with a couple more degrees in each of the other directions, suddenly every single lens you put on the camera becomes a tilt/shift lens.

Can't wait!

I was commissioned to take a group photo of 26 people, I put the K7 on the tripod and the first thing I checked was the level!

I would say the K-x should have had a good shot at best entry level.

I haven't seen the internet buzz around the kx reflected in the traditional magazines. Even the Pentaxuser review failed to mention its iso performance! Still, that pana does look a worthy winner, although I wonder if it ought to be judged in a separate class from real slrs. I guess there aren't enough hybrids for that yet.

and anyone who has read John Hedgecoes book knows his preference in cameras, at least back in the day (not sure what he's shooting now).

Im not sure I would agree with them that the A550 is an entry level camera, especially as Sony have at least 2 models below it. Don't Canon have a model below the 500D as well?

*coughs loudly* FRONT FOCUSING. Honestly, if they're going to give awards on the basis of a device's theoretical capability (rather than what it actually does in practice) then the DA* 16-50 should be winning reliability awards

The EOS 1000D is (remarkably) still going, and most places still have 450Ds in stock too (although I'm not sure if the latter is still officially 'in production' or if there are just containerloads of unsold stock)

I think that Canon did mention that when the 550D was introduced that the 450D is still being made....so we have a 10MP 1000D, 12MP 450D, 15MP 500D and 18MP 550D as budget Canon choices... and I would get the 10D would wipe the floor with them image-wise (I mean the EOS 10D)..

As for the Fischer Price a550, it's being marketed as a sort of mid-range camera, but then again that's the a700's domain. If you think Pentax have committed some sort of suicide with the pricing of the Kx just imagine what Sony buyers had to face...Firstly, they have a range to replace the a100 consisting of 3 cameras, a200, a300 and a350, all capable and still with KonicaMinolta's DNA - these have recently been replaced by the a230, a330 and a380 - at much higher prices with less spec, these are purely Sony designed cameras... These are followed on by the a500 and a550 which more or less mirror the old a300 and a350, at even higher prices, and still lacking some features of the old models. And now they bring out the a450
