Any Photobook recommendations?

Hi Everyone. I’m thinking about producing a photobook as a present for Christmas. I’m thinking hardback, landscape, around 39x29cm.

I saw that Albelli won a comparison on the Gadget show, but has anyone any experience of them, or of anyone else they would recommend?

I use www.blurb.com and have found them every bit as good as my first book which was done by my son Mike for me on Apple Books.

That isn't to say that other suppliers aren't good, but Sue did one with Cewe and I didn't think the paper quality was quite up to the same standard.

Apple and Blurb do quality equivalent to any coffee table book that you might buy in a bookshop.

Nick, I use Albelli indirectly - through a local Dutch chain store.

I have always been very pleased with the photobooks I have had made there. They are for my own use, mostly of holidays, hard backed. Some with a photo cover, some with a linen cover. I play about with the templates they provide to give me the page I want, rather than slavishly using their templates. They suit me for now.

However, if you can afford it, and want a really superb photo book then Blurb is the way to go I think.

I am currently putting together a book for Christmas and have chosen BLURB- they have very good write ups and seem the most highly regarded in terms of quality of paper and print with a number of upgrades avaialable if you want to push the boat out.

I have used Bonusprint in the past- the results were very good and the prices were extremeley good- they were doing 2 for 1 but I dont think that is still the case.

Both have easy to use intuitive software to create the book.

I must admit, I hadn't thought of making a book - what a good idea.
Like many people, I have hundred - even thousands - of photos on my computer but miss the hard copy I used to have with film photography.

I have had three books now from Albelli and can not fault them.

I've used Shutterfly and was very impressed.

Albelli get my vote too, I've tried several others previously and whilst they were all fine the quality of the Albelli one was definitely better

I think it will come down to which of the two company's software I can work best with. The Blurb software has a lightroom addin, which should speed things up, but the Albelli has an auto-position function which makes a first pass at positioning the photos in the book and then allows you to move them around.

I think the Blurb software will auto populate the book for you which you can then move around.

+1 for Blurb by the way, have done 3 books with them and have been very impressed. I haven't used the others mentioned and if Blurb continue with the same quality I probably never will.
