I guess there is a reason virtually every training setup I have seen, all photo printing demo stands, and the default desktop for pro photographers is a mac. Also it doesn't have an annoying touch screen and is an alternative to windows 10.

The BIG profit is there to strongly promote Macs. IBM more or less gave away all the rights to the PC years ago, so there isn't just one manufacturer and profit is almost non-existant.

A lot of people like to waste time and money

Aren't they all using Intel code anyway at the end of the line.

I would like to see another main alternative to Windows which lost direction years ago.

I went through several articles, many of them suggest SSD storage. It has many advantages like the access time, power, heat etc. I think it is a good option to consider. Thanks ClaudiaM, the SSD storage is probably the way to go, but to have the full option in an imac is a serious cost premium. Given that I use an external SSD for my photos and a separate drive for work archive material I plumped for the top option with 2TB fusion drive which has some SSD incorporated. Also uprated the memory from 8 to 16 MB, so thanks to everyone for your helpful advice and I await delivery on Monday!

Not at all

Well the new mac is up and running, spent yesterday downloading some software and finding that mac versions of software have differences compared to the windows versions. I shall have to buy a manual rather than stumbling about in my usual fashion. For a product from a company that puts design at its core there are a couple of irritating design issues like the USB sockets all at the back so that you have to turn the computer round every time you plug something in, and a rechargeable mouse which cannot be used when plugged in because the socket is in the base rather than the front! Anyhow, loved the way it connected to peripherals instantly and photos look fabulous on the large retina screen so worth it despite the niggles.

PS you really don't appreciate what a modern digital camera can do until you see the results on something like this, very impressive.

I bought a usb socket that plugs i to the back but hangs underneath the mac facing the front.

Totally agree with the comment about the new screens how damn good your images look i simply adore my 5k screen and clients love it when they see their beautiful photos on them.
