I saw an exhibition of his pictures in Savannah enlarged to huge sizes, eg 4 by 6.... feet. Stunning quality.

Ansel Adams has always been one of my favourite photographers. His was i think the original quote that we should not take photographs but we should make photographs.
AA made some terrific images in his long career and that stunning quality is certainly something to aspire to.

Is it this book we are talking about: link? I guess every aspiring photographer should have at least one book with Ansels pictures in his homes library. Might be something for my wish-list.

I saw an exhibition of his in Venice, although very familiar with his work from big books, nothing prepared me for the prints - truly astonishing.

Yes thats the one - even cheeper on Amazon than I found it. Just make sure you fit a LARGE letterbox before the postman arrives.Is it this book we are talking about: link? His photos are inspiring. I read that Adams had a camera platform (for his view camera I think ) mounted on his car for better angle of view around 1941.

I was in Waterstones bookshop over the weekend and while looking at the photography section my eye was drawn to a VERY large book (approx 450x350mm and 20mm thick) of Ansel Adams pictures called "Ansel Adams - Landscapes of the American West".
It contains about 150 picture by Adams - all B&W - but when blown up to this size (some are double page spreads) they are very impressive.
Normal price was £50 but it was on offer for £25 - excellent value for a Christmas present for a photographer who is a fan of Ansel Adams.
