Another Portrait up for your views

Hi

I took this image of my girlfriends sisters daughter. It was took with the K10D and I used the Pentax F 50mm 1.7 at F 4.5 with no reflector using natural lighting. Only thing I do not like was the top right tree edge it distacts me as it seems out of focus compared with the other part of the tree. However I did not want to crop it out and lose the hand as it adds to the character of the image.

Also the image in PS looks slightly less saturated and a very natural skin tone. On the web it looks a bit different. Not sure why perhaps someone would car to explain ????

I have done very little editing PS to try to keep it as natural as possible

I think it's your best portrait so far, by a HUGE margin.

I don't think the out-of-focus part of the tree distracts at all; if anything, it keeps attention on the subject. I agree with you that the hand is important to keep in the frame.

I think you should go out with your camera more, and mess with the results less

PS handles colour profiles in a different way to Internet Explorer.
PS will handle the embedded profile where as explorer (to the best of my knowledge) will ignore the embedded profile and use the monitor profile only.

Hence explorer and PS will show the image in different ways.

Colour support is also different, sRGB for internet and ProPhotoRGB/AdobeRGB in PS. If you don't convert the colour space before exporting it will look quite different.

I like all the colour images, I think the bw one is losing too much 'life'. The girl is too happy and relaxed for a monochrome treatment, leave her full of colour.

pete, I'd recommend getting rid of photoshop program (or at least not using large parts of it). Try using software to crop and sharpen, maybe adjust colour slightly, i.e. 'tweak' the image on the computer, not try to change it too much.

I like using lightroom because it can't alter the image too much.

Yup, Irfanview is what you need.
