This is the latest in my ongoing project of recording the growth of Chester Zoos baby elephants. I quite like this one. C&C welcome.

Maybe you can make your profession out of it, they look really good.
Did you do some processing?

That is a corker - it has a real feeling of a family about it - made especially so I think by the mouths of the parent elephants - they really look as if they are smiling and sending out encouragement to the youngster. Very cool.

As Mat says, it's the elders, and what appear to be their smiles, that make this shot.

Is the viewer anthropomorphising, or is parental pride a universal emotion shared by all mammals?

I incline to the latter view.

Not sure about 'smiles' but I don't doubt they are feeling the elephant equivalent of pride there! Emotions like pride and love come from the most primitive parts of the brain, so I am sure they are felt by at least some animals.

The smiles on the adults are fabulous! Cute toddlers too.

The IQ isn't quite there, I fear. I couldn't quite work out what it was but after looking at the large version on your Flickr it looks like a little bit of camera shake. It's most noticeable, even at this small size, on the babies. At first I thought it was overly aggressive noise reduction.

I've taken the liberty of disguising the slight blurriness with my favourite tonal contrast filter from Color Efex Pro. It's very good for wrinkly splotchy animals like elephants (see here). Hope you don't mind!
