Andreas Gursky Exhibition

Was lucky enough to drop by the Andreas Gursky photography exhibition at the Hayward Gallery on the South Bank in London last week. What a gt exhibition this is. He’s probably best known for his large scale work, and in particular his photograph of the Rhine (Rhein II) which sold for £2.7m at Christie’s in 2011, making it the most expensive photograph in the world at the time. His work is certainly pretty extraordinary visually, but it’s the themes that he explores, man’s relationship with nature and the world around him, that for my money really set him apart. Large scale, properly thoughtful stuff. Runs till April 22nd. £14 standard ticket.

I appreciate its hard to call but how long would you expect to take to go round it? We would be travelling a fair way to visit and don';want to get their to find out after 20 minutes we've seen it all

My suggestion would be an hour to an hour and a half... maybe more, maybe less, depending on how you personally relate to the subject matter I guess... there’s a lot to see... 60 photos (some of them huge) over 2 floors...

Must get down to this exhibition, I bet his work has a monumental effect in large prints.

Yup... the sheer scale of it is quite something... the detail too... coupled with what he’s saying (and the explanatory notes with the photographs are pretty illuminating) it’s all pretty powerful stuff...
