Amazon Marketplace

Hello everyone- Be careful if you see any 'bargains' on Amazon Marketplace. I just got this email-

Good afternoon, we are very sorry you have tried to purchase an item from us, probably either an Ipad, Iphone or camera. Unfortunatly this has been a scam created on amazon.
We do not sell Ipad, Iphone or cameras. Please consult amazon direct for any further details.

You order as usual and get a confirmation email from Amazon- soon afterwards the order is cancelled by the seller who then contacts you direct via email asking for your details, using some excuse about not being able to access their Amazon account or it's just quicker to do the deal with them direct.

Presumably this is a case of reputable sellers having their accounts compromised? That in itself is rather worrying!

It seems to be the case- Amazon have been in contact and thanked me for bringing the matter to their attention- they are investigating and will remove any sellers (hopefully) not complying with the Amazon Marketplace rules. I have noticed that as soon as one is found out they log in using a different identity as their scam relies on the delay between the cancellation of the order (by them) and Amazon sending out an email to the customer informing them that the order has been cancelled.Amazon repeated their advice- Do not give any details whatsoever to third parties even if the order was first made on the marketplace site.

It's just an expansion of an existing scam to a new site by the sounds of it - ebay have long warned about sellers offering to complete a deal outside their site.
