thinking of changing my 15/4, 35/2.8 and 70/2.4 da limiteds, but thinking of selling for a fast f/2.8 zoom, say a 17-50/2.8 sigma os or something....

silly idea?

Thinking of selling some of the finest Pentax lenses and replacing them with other manufacturer's zooms?

I would lie down in a darkened room until these strange notions go away...

If you really want a zoom, at least make it a Pentax one.
Best regards, John

well, i do love the iq of the pentax primes, and there's no way i'd ever let go of my 200/2.8.

i have to say that the reason i stay with pentax lenses is because their primes are unique. i would rather have a tamron 17-50/2.8 than a pentax 16-50/2.8 because i am unsure of the sdm. i know that there is a good probability that i won't have these problems, but i really like being 100% confident in my equipment.

mind you, mr john riley, i do think a good like down in a darkened room would do me good. i've had one too many, and i can't think of a scenario where my lenses have let me down...

off to my darkened room then, sleep tight.

There had to be a rational explanation for your irrational proposal. You'll feel better tomorrow and this thread will be but a bad dream.

Just got a 21mm da ltd for £250 off ebay to go alongside my 40mm da ltd. These are simply superb lenses and whilst I have a 16-45mm da and 50-135mm *, I would not dream of selling them. You know it makes sense.

I go further and say it's really the only reason to shoot Pentax. Value for money used to be a second reason, but Pentax are pricing themselves out of that realm.
Listen to my albums free on BandCamp. Or visit my main website for links to photography, etc.

The Tamron can be had for a little over £250 so I'd keep the primes and just buy it....

Don't sell the prime, optical quality is excellent, great value of being a "limited" lens, and taking photos with a prime is so enjoyable. You will not have the same feeling when using a zoom lens.
For convenience and everyday shoot, just add a zoom lens to your collection: 18-55, 16-45, 17-70, 18-135 WR, or 16-50, depending on your budget
