Alternatives to D-BG2

As you may be aware I put my grip for sale.
Its too thin for me to be comfortable, and although I see how it might be better quality and of course has WS... Still, I'd rather sell it and get a cheaper third party one. The savings will be put towards getting a Sigma 17-70mm (I wish the Pentax...).
I would really like to have the Sigma (and a grip would be convenient) for the Edinburgh Festival, to have a go at street photography and for the performers. It seems easier when the street is crowded .

I've been checking ebay and there are two alternatives. One is a copy (in shape) of the D-BG2 and is sold by many sellers, not very atractive, but cheaper at ~£30. The other is a Ownuser brand one, it is ugly as sin but the grip itself seems much more substancial. The problem with this one is that I've only seen it for £60, which is allot.
Has anyone used this Ownuser thing?
How about the D-BG2 copy, does it work fine? (I believe there was one sold a few weeks ago)

Don't know about the grips, why not just buy a couple of spare batteries and put up with a stiff wrist from vertical shooting?

It worked for me with my K110d!

And the saved cash can help finance that wide angle lens...

You're possibly thinking of me as I bought one a couple of weeks ago off the forum. Works fine but it's not for me. PM me and we may come to an arrangement.

I tried it out and it's no real help and I find it awkward to reach the AF button on the K10. Not sure which one it is but it seems OK if that's what you like.

I've got spare batteries, but I don't like the arching arm.
I don't expect to do something like it soon, but when I shot the Edinburgh great run, my arm was hurting like hell.
mikew, is your grip shaped like the D-BG2 or is it thicker?

Possibly thicker - in the morning I'll either take a photo or find the link for you. I think it was Snootchies I bought it from when he bought the bargain Jessops grip. If it's thicker that might explain why I can't reach the AF button as no-one would describe my hands as dainty.

Snootchies was a copy of D-BG2.
I've searched a bit on the Ownuser one, and though it has the advantage of different battery types and a seamingly better grip thickness wise. It seems its very heavy, you have two wires you have to connect to the camera and the screw is badly positioned, making putting and taking it off harder than on the other design.


So I think I'll go for the D-BG2 copy.

Sure, I didn't have to connect any wires. It has a code on the bottom STD-PK10D. I didn't realise it could do different batteries and the instructions make no mention of it but I agree the screw isn't well positioned. Then again how many times do you take it on & off?

I've bought this. I'm sure its not as good as the as the orginal, but has lots of functionalities still.
I'll check it out and tell you guys how it behaves.

As Edumad has rightly said the third party grip was an (almost) exact copy of the genuine grip.

Certainly it had the exact dimensions and the pull out drawer is also identical.

However it had only the vertical shutter release and the on/off/preview dial, and of course is not weather sealed.

However I was extremely happy with the grip. Had it not been for the fantastic deal at Jessops at the time, I would still be happily using it.

And I bought it from Bob, then rapidly realised grips weren't for me. Too big and I found awkward to use vertically but it came down to too big really.

So anyone want it for what I paid which as I recall was £20 and the postage would be about £2 I expect.

I just received the grip.
It works fine, just like the original, all the buttons are there and working.
Of course you loose WR and build quality. It feels less well made and it fits on the K10D slightly less well than the original (not so flush?).
On the other hand it is slightly better in the hand it seems, theres a slight difference in the curvature of the hand grip area itself. Of course it still is very inadequate.

For £30 delivered I'm happy. Lets just see how long it'll last.

I just got something like this from a different ebay user.It works excellently the two dials AE-L lock and exposure buttons all fine.AF and live view functions work just as good.Exactly like the Pentax one but slightly different cosmetic wise.

It fits the k10/k20 seemlessly.
