After the rain

There are three things that I like, firstly the starburst effect a small aperture causes, secondly a back-lit leaf or plant and lastly the color red. I think I have caught all three here. This is the new foliage on the Acer bush in our garden after a brief April shower.

Nice one - I like the sunbursts and especially the veins in the leaf.

Well done

Very nice indeed (and not just the spelling ).

I must say, you're very good with composing elements of empty space. The drops that might fall have some space to fall into - much better than a tighter crop.

The only thing that detracts very slightly is that the depth of field wasn't enough to get the left hand droplet as sharp as the others hanging from the main leaves.

I'm also not a fan of the fancy borders - but that's just me, as is the fact that I keep looking at it and seeing legs and arms hanging down

I was so enamoured (wow that sounds pretentious doesn't it) I went out to look at my acer as it had also had a quick shower on it hoping to reproduce it.

Alas I failed, no sign of any starbursts.

Thank you gentlemen. The shot is at F16 and is a 50% crop using the Sigma 105macro. The leaf itself is only around 2inches long. And thanks Chris for the spelling compliment, without criticism we would never improve.

You're more than welcome. I've been learning quite a bit about composition from some of your recent images, so my thanks to you.

Thanks Chris for the compliment about composition. For the majority of my shots I use the crop tool to compose the shot. With the April showers shot, I place the crop tool around the edge of shot, and then use the grid it overlays to place the points of interest. The 2 prongs of the leaf in shot are on the two vertical lines, each are a 3rd of the shot. The droplet is placed almost on the intersection of the lines based on the rule of thirds.
