AF360FGZ Flash with *istDL2

Hello it's me again.

Can anyone please tell me what flash modes will work between the AF360 flashgun and the *istDL2 camera?
The instruction manual for the DL2 is pretty vague, it only describes P-TTL mode with the AF360 on camera, and off camera using a 2nd AF360 mounted on camera.
The manual I've downloaded for the AF360 was written in 2003, before the DL2 came out.
I'm particuarly interested in the off-camera modes. I know the DL2's built-in flash and the AF360 won't offer off-camera P-TTL mode, but will the built-in flash operate the AF360 as a purely wireless slave. This is described on page 50-51 of the AF360's manual, but like I said it was written back in 2003 so may or may not be applicable to the DL2.
Hope all this makes sense. Thanks.

Have a read of this thread

This was talking about a K100D but I think the same is true of your model.

Thanks Mannesty. I'm even more confused now.
If I'm correct, the AF360 can be set off by the DL2's own flash, but won't give any auto control. Everything will have to be set manually.

I think you are correct in your assumption but I'm no authority as I don't have a camera of your model. Both of my DSLR's use wireless PTTL.

To be honest, you should take the time to understand and master manual control of both camera and flash, fully auto has it's limitations and often produces disappointing results.

Thanks again
Yes I don't mind everything working on manual, that is what I was originally used to with my Spotmatic and manual flash. I just hoped that the AF360 could be used off camera, even in a purely manual mode.

To clarify... the AF360 has two slave modes - either P-TTL slave or "dumb" slave.
The "dumb" slave mode will work with any camera, and because the AF360 was designed for fast retriggering in the P-TTL mode it can cope with double triggers even in the "dumb" mode
You can use either the "A" mode or the "M" mode of the flashgun - as long as the preflash uses no more than half the charge. Effectively that cuts the flash distance in wireless to one half as well... but with digital you can always use a higher ISO setting on the camera.

As said, it's best to use fully "M" mode on both flash and camera - especially if you are in a studio or other controlled environment. Takes less than 2 minutes to get a good setup with digital once you know what you're doing (And it sounds like you do!)

You may find some of the sticky threads of mine on flash are useful

Hope that helps!
