The operating manual for the 48 AF says
"Depending on the camera model, the internal flash unit can also function as master or controllerflash unit."
Check your cameras manual is the advice given by Metz.

Thanks for the reply.
I'm not very knowledgeable on flashguns but from reading the DL2 manual I have sussed out that my DL2 and Metz will not offer full off camera auto functions.
What I want to know, perhaps I didn't word it very well, is that will my DL2's flash set off the Metz in a purely off camera manual slave mode?
Hope this makes sense?
Thanks for the reply.

Well the K100D onboard flash won't so I don't think the ist will. You would need 2 external flashes, one to act as master and the other as slave. Why do you want a slave flash?

Your built-in flash is a P-TTL device and as such discharges a measured preflash, before the main flash and exposure, to determine correct flash power and other exposure settings. That preflash will probably trigger your Metz. If you ensure that it is set to 1/2 power or lower, it should also trigger when the main flash discharge occurs. More than 1/2 power may result in the Metz being in a discharged state when it is needed as the slave.MX veteran

Sorry everyone if I appear thick, I did say I wasn't very knowledgeable on flash units!! I'll try again.
In the Metz catalogue, there is a small slave flash unit ( 28 CS-2) that acts as supplementary off camera flash to your cameras own flash. e.g. when the camera built-in flash fires, the slave unit does as well.
Will the Metz 48 AF-1 also do this?
I realise I would probably have to set the flash power manually
Thanks in anticipation.

If you set the Pentax to manual mode, you lose the preflash anyway. Or why not simply buy a 6 optical slave cube from ebay which ignores the preflash or if you really want no on-board to contribute, but an infra red flash flash from 7day shop for about 17 quid.
Cheers
Rob.

Alas, no you don't. Don't ask me why, but the *istDL2 still pre-flashes on manual mode. I know this because I have a friend with an exceptionally fast blink reflex who cannot be photographed with any camera which does the pre-flash thing. To loose the pre-flash you have to use a dumb on camera accessory flash.

Can the Metz Mecablitz 48 AF-1 Digital flashgun be used as an off-camera slave flash triggered by my cameras built-in flash? My camara is the *ist DL2.
Thanks
