AF360FGZ and K10D problem

I am having a problem with this combination recently. Not having used the flashgun for some time I yesterday got it out because I wanted to use it at an event that I wanted to photograph. However I encountered a rather funny problem when I came to use it. The ready light lit just after switch on but when I pressed the the shutter button to focus, the light went out and the flash did not fire and the shot was way underexposed. Occasionally it did fire. The flash will fire OK off camera when the 'ready' light is pressed and will recharge Ok after a few seconds. The flash is set to P-TTL and Auto Flash and mounted on the camera. Am I missing something or is the Flashgun faulty or the Camera.

Did you use fresh/freshly charged batteries?
Was the flash fitted to the camera properly?
Have you had good shots previously?
Have you tried the flash on another body?
Have you tried the flash in wireless mode?

The flash could be faulty, but it's not likely.

I had a similar problem recently and couldn't figure it out at first until I noticed the flash was set to TTL instead of P-TTL. Scrolling through the modes wouldn't bring P-TTL back again (it went TTL>Auto>Manual>SB and then straight back to TTL).

I was getting quite frustrated and reading the manual over and over to see if I was missing something fundamental but nothing seemed to work until...

I put the flash in SB mode and half-pressed the shutter so that camera and flash made communication, once I'd done this P-TTL magically re-appeared on the list of modes and it's worked fine again ever since. I don't know what happened exactly except there was obviously some glitch in the flash's firmware. I don't know if yours is suffering a similar problem but it might be worth a try. :

Oddly I have a similar problem. Flash was working fine recently on both my K10 and my istD. Had to send the k10D for repair, but now the flash doesn't work on my istD.

I'll have to bring the flash to the shop and see if it will work on another body.
Unfortunately the SB mode trick didn't help. For me both the AF360FGZ and AF540FGZ stopped working so I think I have another dud camera in the matter of a week. Argh!

Anyway, if a solution is found other than bum equipment, I'd be interested in hearing if you get it "fixed". (I have to wait for one camera top get back from the shop before I send the second one in)

In answer to Mannesty's questions, the answers to the first three is YES and to the fourth is NO as I have not got another body, and last is NO but I will give it a go.

Forgive me for asking what may seem a stupid question.

Was the body set to M (or Tv with the flash set to HSS), if so was the shutter speed greater >1/180.

I've lost count of the number of times I've inadvertantly nudged the shutter (my front 'e' dial is set the shutter speed in manual mode) above the sync speed.
