I'm thinking of selling several generations of Pentax flashguns because I think the 360 is compatible with all my needs. These needs are 645, SFX (if I ever use them again) and *istDS. Am I correct in thinking that the 360 is compatible (TTL) with my film cameras? There doesn't seem to be any information about historical compatibility on any Pentax websites that I can find.

I know this is probably wishful thinking but what happens when you connect a modern gun to an older film camera via a 4p connection?

Hi Ken,
Just bought the same flash, and this is what the manual sayspage 26)
With the AF360FGZ, TTL Auto Flash is possible with all autofocus cameras.
(except *IST, MZ-S, MZ-L/MZ-6/ZX-L),and 645N, 67ll, Super A, LX, and 645 cameras.

P-TTL Auto Flash mode is set automatically with:
*IST, MZ-S, MZ-L/MZ-6/ZX-L
I don't know what you mean by a 4P connection,sorry.
Hope it helps.
martin.
Best regards,

Martin.

You can download the 360's manual here: http://www.pentaximaging.com/files/manual/Web_AF360FGZ_REV2_120903.pdf - that should tell you pretty much all you need to know about its capabilities.

As for using a 4P connector, I'd imagine that'd be fine for TTL as the 5th pin carries the "P" (as in P-TTL) information. If you're using it on a camera that doesn't support P-TTL anyway then you won't be losing anything; it'd be no good on a K10D though as they have no TTL support and need the P bit. Hope that makes sense!

Maybe it won't be a problem for others but since buying the 360 to use with my DL I've been very pleased with the results, exceptionally so in many cases (on first using it I felt as though I'd bought a new quality enhancing module for my camera, which I suppose I had!) ... but ... the head doesn't swivel! When it is a problem, it's a big problem.
