AF330 FTZ and istD

I know I should be looking at a 360, but I don't use flash much, and when I do it tends to be macro stuff when I use my cheap manual flash, but, does anyone have experience of the 330FTZ on an istD, and if so, how's it perform?

Do the functions like TTL, second curtain synch, auto zooming etc work? What's the typical recycling time?

They're a lot cheaper than the 360, hence my interest.

Thanks,
Dan

Dan,
Page 93 of the *ist-D manual says that the AF330 will work just fine: TTL (not P-TTL which may be a good thing sometimes ), AF assist, Autozoom (that's the Z of AF330FTZ), etc etc.

Only things listed that don't work:
* Wireless
* High speed sync
* Multiple flash (only the AF500FTZ can do that)

Hope that helps!
Matt

Thanks Matt,

Hmmm, read the manual, there's a thought. Haven't dug that out in a while...

Anyway, now Matt's kindly confirmed it would work, does anyone know recycling times etc? My main concern is that I did get a.n.other secondhand flash a while back, and the 8sec delay between flashes kind of put me off. The Centon manual flash I currently use recycles in about 3s, so that's what I'm used to.

Thanks,
Dan

With a fresh set of AA's a 3s recycle time seems about right for my AF330ftz.

If you can live without bounce/swivel, this flash seems a good compromise between features and size - and you can pick them up for surprisingly little.

I think mine was £19
