Advice on background please

Thank you for the encouraging comments. I just noticed that I did a sloppy job in cloning some more snowy background in the lower part of the photo. So I can start improving there

It looks to me that you have coped very well with the challenge of capturing a dark coloured bird against that icy background.

The background looks fine to me too, apart from cropping out the light bit at the bottom. It's a very nice pic. If I had any comments to make, it would be that perhaps the bird could do with the darker bits being lightened a bit to bring out more detail.

Thanks for the comments The bird does look a bit dark, I went bit too far with the curves tool, tried to achieve better contrast. Well, I need to study more editing techniques.

Background seems fine To echo AG's comments, I'd say the head in particular needs brightening, the body and wings look fine as they are (the tones in the underside of that wing are lovely, btw).

Great shot and I'm with Peter here about the light stroke at the bottom, simply crop that off and more attention would go to the bird since light attracts the eye.

Hello!
I need some tips (again).
I took this photo with my usual walkaround lens, the da 55-300mm, f/7.1, spot metering, ISO 400, shutter speed 1/2000s. I'm satisfied with the bird itself. The background on the other hand is not good in my opinion. It's snow and ice on top of a bay. Any tips on what to do with this kind of problem, though I'm not sure if it is a problem, so I'd like to get some comments on that too. I'd like to know how to improve the photo and particularly the background, in case I'd happen to shoot a 'master piece' otherwise but I'd get this kind of background again, so any advice would be appreciated. I converted it to BW as the photo was bit too boring color wise.
