Thanks Peter,
As I see it there are problems using either, the xmp are not automaticly renamed if you change the file name and Raw database means you can't move the files to another computer without loosing your setting.
I save the files in camera as DNG, do I understand the last update paragraph correctly in that using DNG the changes are saved in the Raw file which could then be moved to another computer and still keep the settings.

Personally, I use only Lightroom, and hence, I haven't had any such issues . . . yet.

Under the RAW preference setting there is the choice to save "Image settings" in either a Sidecar .xmp file or in the "Camera Raw database".
Which choice should one use and what's the difference.
