So on Saturday, I went down to Seattle with my Dad and one of his friends to visit the three airfields Boeing uses: Everett, Boeing Field, and Renton.

Driving around Renton...

Looking at planes...

Next thing, we drive around the corner and voila!!!!! We are at the ramp about 100m from the lineup of brand new Boeings with no fence or barrier of any sort between our car and the planes.

An uneasy feeling put the car into reverse, but there was a security car blocking us off. We were explained to in a very loud voice that Boeing takes unauthorized vehicles driving around in restricted areas very seriously. They feel as if we're "casing them out". Perfectly understandable since 9/11.

So

We had a picture of the car taken by security, and were escorted out of the restricted area.

Now for the silliness of it all.
A few metres back and a longer lens = same shots, no security escort.
And it was all too easy to get onto the ramp. Really!!!

We probably would have been blown sky high if we'd rode onto the ramp and tried to do anything. I'll let you know if we're allowed back into the US to visit Boeing.

And this trip convinced me to get the DA* 16-50mm and DA* 60-250mm.
I drool at the thought.
