Before you spend that kind of money check these boys out.

You'd get an awful lot of large prints from them for the price of the printer and I doubt that you'd actually print cheaper than them either.

Walking before running springs to mind.
A3 printers and decent inks are not cheap to buy, or cheap to use. Why not get a decent A4 printer and have any A3 prints that you might want produced professionally by ProAm or Photobox.
You can spend the money you save on more lenses.

i already have a decent A4 printer peter and thats what im going to do didnt quite realise how much A3 printers were

I have a Epson A3 (Photo 1400) that prints up to A3+. I like the full control over the process this gives me, as well as the superior print quality compared with the companies that I have used before for large prints when I only had a A4 printer.
It isn't cheap, however. I bought my printer for £ 225.00 (but the price has since gone up) and inks are £ 10.99 each (there are six cartridges - Owl type).
Friends/colleagues are amazed by the quality of the prints.
(Basically, you pays yer money and takes yer choice!)

I also use the 1400 a very good photo printer for the money, i can get (sometimes) the inks for as low as £5 each and they are genuine, I would never use compatibles, not only may the colours be wrong but i have found in the past they dry out and wreck the print heads, no problem with genuine ones.I have a Epson A3 (Photo 1400) that prints up to A3+. But if you want to do mainly "black and white" then you will have to spend a load more cash on a printer.
For A4 stuff i use another Epson printer that’s even cheaper to run.

Canon ix4000 never had a paper jam once and it prints excellent quality photo's
