A retro afternoon

I had two rolls of Kodachrome sitting on my desk for six months and finally decided to use them today brfore the processing stops at the end of November.

So I dug out my old kit and after problems with my Z1 camera I ventured forth kitted out with the following:

MX + autowinder + K50mm 1.2
ME Super + FA* 24mm 2.0

The first thing I noticed was how easy it was to focus....the viewfinder is huge compared to digital Pentax's. The ME Super is a wonderful camera to use in aperture priority, with the shutter speed displayed "in the wiewfinder". I never used it on film before (it is a recent acquisition), unlike the MX which was my workhorsefor over 10 years. I did find the MX shutter dial awkwardly positioned at first but soon got the hang of it again as I was transported back 30 years!

With the K50mm 1.2 and autowinder on the MX it was not the lightweight camera I remembered, but with the very satisfying click/whir every time I pressed the shutter, I felt like a real pro!

I can't wait to see what the slides turn out like, and if they are any good I will get them scanned.

The most exciting part for me was just the experience of shooting film again. Making sure my exposure and framing was correct. No instant photoshop fixes for slide film !

I urge you all to have a go.

I have no doubt that shooting slides offers a lesson in composition and exposure skills.

What you take is what you get and it really forces the photographer to be more careful and think.

Glad that you enjoyed it. Can you scan some images to show us in due course?
Best regards, John
