I can see no point at all in promoting just one mail order dealer. If Pentax are in any way connected with this they will have serious problems with their other dealers and even outlets refusing to stock their stuff. Pentax may as well sell direct and forget about selling through shops, but mail order is not the way to promote photographic gear.

What's needed is more Pro dealers no more than 25 miles from everyone in the country.

Generally I agree with you here too Shim BUT I would say that it's Chris and his colleagues that are the people that have built SRS to it's current standing not Pentax.
They (SRS) have been the company who have been proactive and forward thinking where others have been perhaps more passive.

So SRS are a success of their own making and you can see other manufacturers are now clambering for some of the action (notably Olympus). All IMHO of course

There's nothing wrong with success, and nothing wrong with building success through successful partnerships.

IMHO we're far too shy about being successful in the UK.

The size of the market doesn't justify that. Where SRS has been clever is to use a physical shop as a base for selling on the internet. They get many more customers as a result, which means they can offer keener prices. Customers love it because they have the comfort of knowing there is always a shop (indeed two) they can go to, if necessary or convenient.

My take on it is quite a bit different Shim. If you were the most successful Pentax dealer in the UK with the most exciting camera they have ever made about to be released, would you not be trying to negotiate the price down as much as possible for as long as possible?

I'm quite glad that it appears to me that it is exactly what's going on, that way Chris and the team can give us the best price possible. With currency fluctuating as fast as it is, makes more sense than blindly accepting a price say 2 months before release, perhaps that's what makes them the most successful and respected Pentax dealer in the country.

Just cannot understand why you are so negative about this, seems like an extremely positive move to me.
