A new picture

I was creating a few pictures today, and i particularly liked this one. What do you think?

I like it . . . a lot. Very reptilian looking and excellent use of colour to give the right impact. I'm impressed and encouraged to be a bit more adventurous with my own images.

Is it possible to have a digital image transferred to canvas? My son was asking me the other day and I couldn't answer him. I've no experience of anything other than paper media. Anybody know of a service in the UK?

one of my best sellers is canvas.
there's two advantages and one con.
A) it looks very painterly, and customers feel they're getting something really special. For some that clinches the sale on a studio portrait, as big chains low cost portrait packages don't offer it.
A) by applying a painting brush like texture to an image that's been oversized (eg 24"x36" x200-300dpi)off a pef file...the texture off the canvas hides most jaggies, moir paterns etc...
C)you lose some tonal range (esp fine detial in shadows)

Anywhere that has a large format inkjet service (epsons for eg) can do them. get to a framers and have then stretched onto wood frames. ready for custom frames. I don't know where in uk, but if you're ever in Winterpeg you can try Don's Photo (no relation). I don't buy hardware from them ( they seem to have a long standing policy of hiring morons) but thier pro printing services are good.

Would make a suggestion though - is it possible to less transparency on the woman or perhaps more contrast. Or, move the bark to the left so that it is more "over" the face.

Nonetheless I think the colouring is excellent. I personally like to see the mixtures of orange, red and browns - I think they're quite pleasing.

Did you use an overlay or such mode?

It is indeed a blending mode, but which one I can't remember - I just tried them until I got the effect I wanted. Other adjustments were the relative opacities of the two layers and the individual adjustments to levels.

Less transparency or different contrast levels are possible indeed - it's a judgement call - the potential for variation is endless. This was the point I chose that gave me what I was looking for in the image.
