A Magic Land

It's a composite of two images. The background is the landscape and this was converted to IR mono in Channel Mixer. It's important to do it this way otherwise you can't drag the colour image (rainbow and black sky) into the image.
The image is now two layers which can be adjusted in Levels separately.
Then we explore Blending modes to see which gives the desired effect, coupled with some erasing of unwanted details in the top colour image.
Flatten image, save as required. I think I'll have a try with it all colour.

Not for me I'm afraid.
Although I do like "colour popping" I think the rainbow contrasts too much with the background.
However, I think that has more to do with the IR effect on the background. I'd be intrigued to see a "normal" mono of the background with the raindbow superimposed.

Getting there! Thanks to you guys

I'm on the fence so didn't comment earlier.
the one thing I did for sure wonder is if the rainbow went behind the tree instead of over it...

Fired many shots. Didn't kill anything.

I'm not sure about the rainbow as I wanted it to hit and illuminate the tree, but of course that's unrealistic as Don points out.
I tried an all colour version but didn't like it, so i may leave it at that.
I didn't have colour popping in mind when I did this - it's not strictly that anyway - but rather more to introduce a ray of light (hope) into a monochrome world.
We could maybe do with some of that generally in this world of ours!

This is rather an intriguing photo. The more I look at it, the more I like it.
I would prefer to see about 2 inches cropped from the left; I think this increases the impact.

I think the concept could work really well as a video clip....
black and white, then have the rainbow form in color, then fade to full color...
that would totally work for me.
perhaps try this image with a cool toned blue tint, if you can do that and keep the color in the rainbows as is, that cold color tint would add to the moodyness.

I like the idea of this john but its lacking some thing.
Have you tried putting some colour back in to the tree that the rainbow is hitting ?

Some are more equal than others

I like it, but I think I'd prefer it with a non-IR monochrome landscape.
